• Written data is written immediately

        $LINE[24] =~ s/not/now/;

• Here, only line 24 is rewritten

        $LINE[100] =~ s/I like pie/I like Perl/;

• Here, lines 100 through the end of the file must be rewritten

• Tie::File does this as efficiently as possible
