In Git, it's never too late to go back and do things differently
You can't screw anything up irrevocably
The old commits are still in there
You can move the tag back to the old head if you change your mind
Or:
You can redo new work in a slightly different universe
You can undo a bad change in the middle of some good changes
You can see what things would be like if work were done in a different order
You can copy work from one branch to a different branch
Once you are happy with how things went, you can publish your history
If you change your mind later, you can publish a different history
