Store Related Values Together

          $time[$i]=$Fld[5]; $size[$i]=$Fld[7]; $file[$i]=$Fld[8]; 
          $user[$i]=$group[$i]=$Fld[13];

Parallel Arrays
Here we're programming by convention again
- $group[7], $time[7], and $size[7] are all related
- But the program doesn't know that and the code doesn't say so
- How can the maintenance programmer tell that $mylist[7] isn't related?

Because software tends to accrete like barnacles on a whale,
rather than growing according to plan,
obscure relationships and the rationale behind them tend to be forgotten
as newly hired programmers take the places of the old.
