It's a system for tracking many revisions of some content
Typically program source code
But it could be any sort of text or other files
It does not work well for video or other large non-text files
My running example will be an online blog with many contributors and editors
But Git was invented for tracking revisions to the Linux kernel source code
It was invented by Linus Torvalds, who also invented Linux
Why "Git"?
Linus says he always names his software after himself
